This piece is made by selecting fabrics to create a picture. The fabrics are layered and sewn in place using free motion embroidery, a technique which uses my sewing machine as a drawing tool. Finishing touches and embellishments are made using hand embroidery.
The Pollock Holes can be found only at low tide just outside Kilkee on the Wild Atlantic Way. A series of large rock pools deep enough for swimming in, surrounded by magnificent cliffs and the ever-present Atlantic Ocean. From fossilised creatures in the rock bed to towering cliffs shaped by the waves and the wind, the sense of being in an ancient landscape is ever present. I wanted to explore the textures of the cliffs and the rocks in this piece.
